Audition Overview
The Valencia Academy of Performing Arts (VAPA) is committed to discovering and nurturing talented individuals in music, dance, and theatre. Our audition process is designed to identify potential, assess skills, and determine the best fit for our various programs. We seek passionate and dedicated students who are eager to learn and grow as artists. Auditions are held several times a year, both in person at our Valencia campus and virtually.
Whether you are a seasoned performer or a rising star, we encourage you to audition and share your artistic vision with us. Our faculty, comprised of leading professionals in their respective fields, will carefully evaluate each applicant based on their technical proficiency, artistic expression, and overall potential.

Audition Requirements
Specific audition requirements vary depending on the discipline. Please review the following guidelines carefully for the area you are auditioning for:
Music (All Instruments & Voice)
- Prepare two contrasting pieces that showcase your technical and musical abilities.
- Vocalists should prepare songs in at least two different languages (Spanish and English recommended).
- Instrumentalists will be asked to perform scales and sight-read a short excerpt.
- Bring sheet music for the audition panel (if applicable). An accompanist will be provided.
Dance (Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz)
- Attend a master class taught by VAPA faculty.
- Ballet: Prepare variations from classical repertoire. Bring pointe shoes (if applicable).
- Contemporary: Prepare a short solo that showcases your technique and artistry.
- Jazz: Participate in a jazz combination class.
- Wear appropriate dance attire (leotard, tights, ballet shoes/jazz shoes).
Theatre (Acting, Directing)
- Prepare two contrasting monologues (one comedic, one dramatic) no longer than two minutes each.
- Directing candidates should submit a portfolio of their previous work, including a director’s statement.
- Be prepared to participate in improvisation exercises.
- Bring a headshot and resume.

- Practice Regularly: Consistent practice is crucial. Rehearse your audition pieces until you feel confident and comfortable.
- Choose Your Material Wisely: Select pieces that showcase your strengths and highlight your unique talents.
- Get Feedback: Perform for teachers, mentors, or peers and ask for constructive criticism.
- Dress Appropriately: Choose attire that is professional and allows you to move freely.
- Warm-Up: Properly warm up your voice or body before the audition to prevent injury and optimize performance.
- Be Punctual: Arrive on time for your audition to demonstrate respect for the panel's time.
- Stay Calm and Confident: Take deep breaths, focus on your performance, and believe in your abilities.
- Research the Academy: Show your interest by demonstrating knowledge of VAPA's programs and faculty.
